This is a really fine looking double rudder, powered glider. This jewel begs to be converted to today's small RC gear. Just a rudder and elevator is all you need
Wing span 60",,, length 38'',,, Power: K&B .19 shown. The really great magazine article, which is dated February 1953, is included. I really like how that big ole landing wheel is faired into the underside of the plane.

Widgeon Flying Boat
Plans are still under restoration... They are missing several border lines and have parts that have not been cleaned and restored. These are EXCELLENT plans to build with. Plans are NOT recommended for collecting yet. I have 40 hours into restoring them just to get them this clean!
HISTORY: The Coast Guard obtained 25 Grumman G-44 light amphibian aircraft during 1941-2 as J4F-1s, later adding light bomb racks under the wings for service with USCG patrol squadrons. One hundred thirty one J4F-2s subsequently procured by the Navy, carried a crew of two and three passengers. For many years it was believed that a Coast Guard J4F Widgeon flown by Aviation Chief Machinist's Mate Henry White and Radioman First Class George H. Boggs, Jr., sank the German submarine U-166 south of Houma, Louisiana on 1 August 1942. However, in June 2001 oil companies scouting the route for a proposed gas pipeline in the Gulf of Mexico discovered the wreckage of the U-166 near that of SS Robert E. Lee, which the U-boat sank on 30 July 1942. According to World War II action reports, Robert E. Lee's escort, PC-566, attacked a submarine that day with inconclusive results. The discovery of U-166 appears to indicate that PC-566's attack was successful and that the Coast Guard J4F attacked one of two other U-boats operating in the area, neither of which was sunk. The aircraft on display is the Widgeon flown by White and Boggs. It was received in a flyable condition from Steve Hamilton of Reno, Nevada with post-war conversion from the original in-line, 200 hp Ranger engines with wooden propellers.
